Community Alert: Dangerous E-Bike & Motorbike Use

Dear Calderdale Residents,

Following recent tragic incidents in our area, we are reminding residents of the dangers associated with the illegal and anti-social use of e-bikes and motorbikes.

We continue to receive reports of riders speeding on pavements, intimidating pedestrians in parks, causing near-miss collisions, and creating noise nuisance across our neighbourhoods. These behaviours put lives at risk and impact the safety and wellbeing of our community.

Know the Law

Legal e-bikes must have a motor of no more than 250W and assistance must cut out at 15.5 mph.

E-bikes capable of higher speeds may be classed as motorbikes and require a licence, registration, tax, insurance, and approved helmet.

Vehicles used dangerously or anti-socially may be seized by police.

How You Can Help

✅ Check any e-bike or scooter purchased complies with UK law.

✅ Report dangerous riding or anti-social behaviour to West Yorkshire Police via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

✅ Keep pavements, parks, and public spaces safe for pedestrians.

✅ Speak to young people about the serious consequences of dangerous riding.

Recent fatalities serve as a heart-breaking reminder that reckless riding is not harmless fun. By working together, we can help prevent further tragedies and keep Calderdale safe for everyone.
